Las Vegas has more alcohol-serving establishments per square mile than any other American city, and the pricing structure is deliberately complex. Here's how to drink well across all budget levels.

The Free Drink System

Casinos provide complimentary drinks to active gamblers. The system requires: a players club card (free, get one at the desk), active play (coins in machine or chips on table), and a tip to the cocktail server ($1–2 per drink keeps them coming back). Minimum play threshold is low — $0.25 video poker or $5 table bet qualifies.

Price Tiers

  • Casino bar (non-gambling): $10–16 per cocktail
  • Strip restaurant bar: $14–20 per cocktail
  • Rooftop bar: $18–28 per cocktail
  • Nightclub: $20–30 per drink, minimum bottle spend often required
  • Off-Strip bars (Arts District, Fremont East): $8–14 per craft cocktail
  • Convenience store beer: $2–4 for a can, legal to drink walking on the Strip

The Smart Approach

Stock up at Walgreens or Total Wine for in-room drinks. Use the casino free drink system for floor-level drinking. Save the premium cocktail budget for one genuinely excellent bar (Chandelier at the Cosmopolitan, Velveteen Rabbit, PDT).

Confirm current hours, prices, access, age rules, and availability with the official venue before you go.
