Las Vegas travel story

First Time in Las Vegas? The Perfect 4-Day Itinerary

4 days is the ideal Las Vegas trip length — long enough to see everything, short enough that the excess doesn't catch up with you. Here's how to spend every hour.

The most common Las Vegas trip mistake is trying to do everything in 3 days and burning out completely by day 2. The second most common is having no plan and spending $500 on decisions made at 2am. This itinerary solves both problems.

Day 1: Arrival and The Strip North

Afternoon

Check in, drop your bags, and walk north. The Venetian-Palazzo complex is the best first impression the Strip can make: 65 acres of Italian Renaissance architecture, the Grand Canal with working gondoliers, and the most impressive casino floor in the world. Walk through without spending money. Then Wynn and Encore — the most beautiful hotel design in Las Vegas. The Wynn Esplanade and lobby are stunning.

Evening

Dinner at a midpoint on the Strip. The Cosmopolitan's Wicked Spoon, TAO at the Venetian, or Secret Pizza (hidden on the 3rd floor of the Cosmopolitan — one of the best value meals on the Strip). After dinner, find the Bellagio: the fountains, the conservatory, the casino floor. Spend time. Then walk Las Vegas Blvd south toward the Aria and Cosmopolitan.

Night

Pick one nightlife option and commit: Omnia at Caesars for world-class EDM, Marquee at the Cosmo for a mixed music crowd, or the piano bar at the Cosmopolitan Chandelier Bar for something less exhausting. Don't try to club-hop on night one — you'll be jet-lagged and the effort will outweigh the reward.

Day 2: The Strip South + A Show

Morning

Sleep in. Seriously. You're in Las Vegas. 10am is early. A proper Las Vegas breakfast at Bouchon at the Venetian or the Wicked Spoon brunch. Then walk or Uber south to see the Aria, Park MGM, T-Mobile Arena, New York New York, MGM Grand, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. If it's pool season, today is dayclub day — Wet Republic at MGM Grand is the best value entry point.

Evening

Your show. Cirque du Soleil O at the Bellagio is the reliable classic — 33 years running and still genuinely extraordinary. Penn & Teller at the Rio is the best magic show in the city. The Blue Man Group at Luxor is great for groups. David Copperfield at MGM if you want old-school Vegas showmanship.

Night

Post-show casino crawl. Play the tables — at least one hand of blackjack, even if you're just watching. The $15 minimum blackjack tables at the Venetian and Aria are the best balance of atmosphere and odds. Order the complimentary drinks. Tip the cocktail server.

Day 3: Downtown + Fremont Street

Morning

Uber to the Arts District. Morning coffee at the PublicUs café or the Vesta Coffee Roasters. Walk through the street art murals on 18th and Colorado. This is the real Las Vegas, not the casino version — a genuine neighborhood with independent restaurants, galleries, and locals who live and work downtown.

Afternoon

Fremont Street. The Golden Nugget is the best hotel in the area — the pool with a shark tank is worth seeing even if you're not staying. Binion's for serious gambling. El Cortez for the old Las Vegas atmosphere. The Fremont Street Experience pedestrian zone comes alive after dark but has interesting buskers and street life all day.

Night

The Fremont Street LED light show starts at dark and runs every hour. Watch it from ground level first, then from the zip line platform for a different perspective. Fremont East afterward: the Velveteen Rabbit, the Beauty Bar, the Commonwealth — small bars with genuine local energy. End the night differently from how you started it.

Day 4: Day Trip + Goodbye Dinner

Morning (leave by 7am)

Red Rock Canyon. It's 20 minutes from the Strip and one of the most beautiful landscapes in North America. The 13-mile scenic drive through the red sandstone takes 90 minutes at a leisurely pace. The Calico Hills trail is 1.5 miles and genuinely spectacular. Be back by noon before the heat.

Afternoon

Pool. Spa. Recovery. You've earned it. Most Strip hotels have excellent spa facilities, and this is the day to use them.

Evening

Goodbye dinner. Budget properly — Las Vegas has some of the best restaurants in the world, and this is the night for a proper meal. Joël Robuchon at MGM for the full luxury experience. Carbone at ARIA for Italian-American classic. CUT by Wolfgang Puck at the Palazzo for the best steak. These are expensive. They're worth it. Order a bottle of wine.

Confirm current hours, prices, access, age rules, and availability with the official venue before you go.
